Job Description
EMBO stands for excellence in the life sciences. Funding, training and networking activities plus four scientific journals impact thousands of scientists every year.
EMBO is seeking an experienced administrative officer to provide support to the EMBO Membership and The EMBO Meeting. The successful applicant provides a wide range of administrative support including correspondence with EMBO Members and speakers, data processing, documentation preparation, proof-reading and meeting co-ordination.
Specific responsibilities:
- Coordinate the nominations and elections of the EMBO Membership, EMBO Council and the EMBO Gold Medal;
- Organize and take minutes for committee meetings;
- Compile data for the outcome of elections;
- Deal with inquiries from the EMBO Membership;
- Provide first point of contact and ongoing support for the speakers at The EMBO Meeting;
- Support the submission and selection of abstracts for scientific posters at The EMBO Meeting;
- Curate and administer the in-house databases associated with the above activities.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate:
- Will have relevant experience in administration;
- Will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Will have demonstrated the ability to work on different projects in parallel and independently manage workflow and priorities;
- Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to work to strict deadlines are indispensible;
- Will be able to compile data and presentation documents using current office software;
- Will have excellent written and spoken English;
- Adapts easily to changing circumstances;
- Is calm, stable and controlled in all situations;
- Plans, organizes and prioritizes workload effectively;
- Strives for high quality of work, is thorough and aware of goals and standards of the organization;
- Strives to deliver solutions, is forthcoming and enjoys supporting our clientele;
- Has the ability to work as part of a team;
- A university degree is a plus, as is prior experience in research administration and/or working in an international environment.
