A decade ago, a new architecture to manage and resolve banking crises, centered on the Brussels-based Single Resolution Board, was implemented in the euro area as part of the broader banking union project. Thankfully, bank failures have been infrequent since then and have all been orderly. How much can be extrapolated from that experience into the future? How ready is the existing crisis response framework to deal with new and evolving risks, and how will it be affected by possible steps towards completing the banking union?
