The Internal Audit Office is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the Agency's operations by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the Agency's risk management, control and governance processes.


The successful candidate will:

  • plan and organise internal audits, related to the Agency's operations, financial management and/or other audits relevant to the Agency in the context of governance, risk management and internal controls directly reporting to the Head of Internal Audit; for large or complex audits, the work shall be performed under supervision of senior audit staff (senior Internal Audit experts);
  • conduct audit field work, gather and analyse information, draft good quality audit reports and communicate results to management, convincing them of the benefits from implementation of the recommendations;
  • develop good working relations with other auditors and auditees in order to obtain all necessary information and acquire their collaboration;
  • monitor progress and ensure follow-up of recommendations in previous audit reports;
  • offer, under the supervision of senior audit staff, consultancy activities, including participating in Agency Working Groups and meetings;
  • perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.


  • Completed relevant university studies of 3 years (Bachelor degree);
  • Internal candidates who do not meet the required level of education must justify appropriate professional experience within the Agency structure in accordance with Rule of Application No. 2a;
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience;
  • Audit/accountancy qualification gained under IFRS/IAS Standards (e.g. CIA, CIMA, ACCA, CPA, etc.) would be an asset;
  • Experience with International Internal Auditing Standards;
  • Experience in the use of audit tools and management and control systems;
  • Understanding of how different systems and complex processes work in organisations;
  • Knowledge of ATM would be an asset (e.g. air traffic services, airspace management, air traffic flow management, etc.);

  • Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment;
  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this specific function, a thorough knowledge of English (oral/writing) and a satisfactory knowledge of French are required. A thorough knowledge of French would be considered an asset.


  • An initial selection will be made by a Selection Board on the basis of the candidates' qualifications and experience. Thereafter, those candidates considered suitable may be invited for assessment and interviews;

Agency staff subject to the Staff Regulations governing officials, the General Conditions of Employment governing servants at the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, or the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff are considered internal candidates. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period;
  • If an external candidate is selected, he/she will be offered an appointment for an undetermined period. Before being established in the post, external candidates will be required to successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months;
  • Pursuant to Rule of Application No. 2, Article 16a, the successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade;
  • The type of post is: Administrator (AD 5-12);
