We’re a fast-growing team of political specialists who advise some of the world’s biggest brands on EU policy and regulatory issues. Our consultants are policy experts, who enjoy becoming genuine extensions of their clients’ in-house teams.

We require someone who has experience in EU and international trade policy and ideally another EU policy area (preferably in environment or technology policy) as well as an in-depth understanding of the workings of the EU institutions and the Brussels stakeholder environment.

The successful candidate will take on responsibilities in servicing client accounts, and will directly support the Head of Trade Policy of the Brussels office.

For the right person this will be an exciting role, with the opportunity to contribute towards managing interesting clients and building a market-leading team that provides valued strategic advice and insight to clients.

The Consultant provides support advising Hanover’s existing clients and in the overall management of key client accounts. The Consultant also provides support on new business activity including identification of business opportunities, planning and executing marketing opportunities, and contributing to proposals and pitching.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

Client handling:

  • Provide timely and relevant support in advising key clients and prospective clients, informed by sector knowledge and broad intelligence-gathering on policy developments;
  • Conduct client- or topic-specific analyses and draft bespoke briefings;
  • Develop close client relationships and support senior members of the team in the day-to-day contact with the clients related to the execution of advocacy and communication campaigns;
  • Participate and contribute in client meetings and internal account management meetings supporting senior members of the team in reviewing progress, monitoring capacity and allocating tasks.

Management and New Business support:

  • Work closely with senior members of the team to build a competitive, best-of-class European trade policy team and offer;
  • Support the Managing Director in the implementation of the marketing strategy for the trade policy practice;
  • Regularly contribute timely and newsworthy articles and blogs to relevant media;
  • Expand personal network and, by extension, that of the Hanover Brussels team through event attendance and relationship-building.

We are looking for an experienced professional with the following skills:

  • 1-3 years’ demonstrable experience and thorough understanding of EU and international trade policy (plus one additional field of EU policy);
  • Knowledge of the interaction between EU, international and national policy and the business impact that this can have on clients;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Effective time-management and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to take initiative and autonomy in carrying out tasks;
  • Strong creative writing skills;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Recognised ability to bring creative flair and ideas to new business proposals;
  • Ability to operate effectively and collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Excellent verbal communication.

The ideal candidate will be degree-level educated and have experience working in either a public affairs consultancy, in-house at a relevant company or in a European trade association.
