Role description

The work of the WJC’s Investigations Team is integral to the mission of the organisation. The need to clearly explain how the Investigations Team operates, our strengths and vision, is essential for attaining the WJC’s organisational strategic goals. Content from the Investigations Team work is fundamental to contribute to the work of the International Growth, Communications and Strategic Partnerships departments of the WJC.

The Senior Liaisons Manager will play a pivotal role within the organisation, maintaining contact on behalf of the Investigation Team with external stakeholders, namely intergovernmental organisations, nongovernmental organisations and government agencies and engaging with media on investigation-related issues, as addressed by the Communication Director and the Executive Director. The post holder will liaise with different departments, provide content and actively contribute to the development of products to different audiences. S/he will also be responsible for coordinating the production of the WJC’s Case File, a highly actionable document addressed to law enforcement agencies that maps out the criminal networks and their illicit activities, as well as external reports that seek to generate policy change.

Responsibilities

The Senior Liaison Manager, as a member of the Investigation Team, will be responsible for representing the Investigations Team with internal and external stakeholders. S/he will coordinate WJC investigation-based report production, including Case Files and external papers and contribute to identifying key audiences to effect policy change. Project management will be an additional responsibility upon request.

The post holder will also contribute to the work of the following departments, on behalf of the Investigations Team:

Communications and Outreach

  • Actively contributes to increasing the WJC’s reputation and impact by identifying how findings from the Investigations Team can be of value in conservation and rule of law contexts. S/he will be responsible for providing content to the Communication Department as requested for products addressed to different audiences;
  • Acts as WJC’s spokesperson on investigation-related issues, engaging with the media and responding to communication opportunities where directed by the Communication Director.

International Growth

  • Monitors the funding needs of all the investigations and reporting requirements in coordination with the International Growth team on a short, medium and long-term basis;
  • Supplies investigative content to fundraising proposals and reports, including budgets, project aims and milestones.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Represents the WJC externally with confidence, gravitas and knowledge of the subject matter, engaging with relevant stakeholders when an investigations perspective is needed; 
  • Participates in conferences, bilateral and multilateral meetings, as requested.

Requirements

  • Educated to a minimum of bachelor’s degree level, preferably master’s level;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the project management cycle, preferably within international organisations. Direct hands-on experience on conservation or wildlife trade issues, a plus;
  • Proven law enforcement experience (specify area) will definitely be an advantage;
  • Highly competent communicator; impeccable communications skills in English (written, oral and presentation) are essential to the role;
  • Fluency in other UN language(s), a plus.
