The European Association of the Machine Tool Industries and related Manufacturing Technologies (CECIMO) is looking for a new staff member to join its Brussels-based team.

About the Association

Founded in 1950, CECIMO is recognised as the international representative of the common interests and values of the European machine tool industry, consisting of a total of 15 European national associations. CECIMO is the European platform which identifies and promotes key strategic initiatives to improve the global competitiveness and leadership of the European machine tool industry.

Recently, CECIMO has moreover created a new Committee within its structure to represent Additive Manufacturing/ 3D printing.

About the role

The Innovative Manufacturing Policy Manager will work on EU regulatory and policy issues dealing with engineering subjects (especially as 3D Printing and Digitization) as well as EU R&D projects (such as Erasmus+, Horizon 2020).

The role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to grow and develop the Committee in what is a very fast growing and dynamic industry. The 3D printing industry is central to the EU’s industrial agenda, attracting a lot of political and societal interest.

Reporting directly to the Director General, the Innovative Manufacturing Policy Manager will:

  • Promote and represent to European public authorities and stakeholders CECIMO’s views on regulatory, policy and legal issues affecting the machine tool and 3D printing sector (machinery requirements, intellectual property, liability, skills, trade, circular economy);
  • Monitor EU dossiers and analyse their possible impact on the European machine tool industry;
  • Manage relevant expert working groups, prepare their meetings’ agendas and guarantee regular industry presence into them, writing minutes and action lists;
  • Increase the opportunities of the sector to kick-start and/or be part of EU Research and Innovation projects. Monitor and ensure CECIMO’s timely implementation of tasks in EU-funded R&D projects;
  • Develop position papers, reports and present them to EU decision-makers and other stakeholders;
  • Organise events and seminars;
  • Give presentations to the General Assembly and external at events and seminars;
  • Create and disseminate promotional and educational material on the sector and improve its image.

Desired Skills and Experience

The desired candidate should have:

  • An interest in 3D printing, the advanced manufacturing industry more broadly and issues surrounding it;
  • A good understanding of European institutions, policies, regulations (internal market, trade, energy and environment ) and the EU decision-making processes;
  • Ability to transform technical/legal inputs into EU policy-oriented recommendations;
  • Experience in project management and preferably with EU-funded R&D projects;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral), ability to write clear and concise reports, articles, position papers, minutes;
  • Willingness to take initiative and create new opportunities to enhance the visibility of the sector;
  • Cooperative spirit, analytical and multitasking skills, sense of initiative and autonomy, eye to detail, ability to prioritize;
  • Ready to contribute in a flexible way to a small but dynamic team.

The candidate should also have:

  • A university degree preferably in EU Affairs (Legal, Economics or Business) Engineering (automation, electromechanical or mechanical) Economics or Law;
  • Excellent English language proficiency;
  • Digital and social media skills;
  • A diplomatic and solution-oriented approach.
