Full-time 6-month contract
Starting 1st September 2019

BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, is looking for a food policy assistant to assist the BEUC Secretariat and our members in campaigning to influence EU food policy and legislation.

The duties of the Food Policy Assistant would include the following:

  • support the food team on all aspects of EU food policy and legislation;
  • monitor institutional developments and deadlines regarding ongoing legislative procedures;
  • draft reports on internal and external meetings;
  • gather data, articles and studies on issues related to food topics;
  • collect and compile BEUC members’ comments, articles and other information when consultation with BEUC members takes place;
  • monitor policy developments, especially in relation to nutrition policy (e.g. nutrition labelling, food marketing to children) and food labelling (e.g. nutrition and health claims, alcohol labelling);
  • assist in drafting position papers and annual monitoring reports.

The main qualifications we are looking for are:

  • a Master’s degree in European Affairs or any other relevant field (public health, nutrition, food science, food law, etc.);
  • good (working) knowledge of the EU institutions;
  • good communications skills;
  • an understanding of consumer issues and a commitment to advancing the interests of consumers;
  • very good English required, French an asset;
  • excellent English writing skills required;
  • interest in European consumer protection;
  • interest in public policy and advocacy.

  • What are, according to your analysis, the most food policy reforms the EU should undertake to protect consumers?
    • Using maximum 250 words.
