EU specialist Fin Tech and payments law firm FM Legal is looking for a qualified lawyer to help build its Brussels presence, and to assist in providing representation for the Electronic Money Association (EMA) in Brussels. The successful candidate will join an international team of EU experts in financial services, payments, crypto assets, technology, e-money legislation, AML and financial crime working on behalf of global Fin Tech, payments and technology clients to advise on regulatory change and influence the development of EU policy in these areas.

The EU Law and Policy Advisor will monitor and analyse EU legislative developments of relevance to clients, pro-actively build and grow a network of institutional and client contacts. The successful candidate will monitor developments, and draft internal and client-facing briefings, updates and advice, engage with institutions as well as leading the firm’s policy work in Brussels.

The position can commence immediately, but suitable candidates’ timeframes can also be accommodated.

Profile

  • You are looking for a new challenge and are interested in working with the Fintech sector;
  • You have at least 3 years of working experience;
  • You are a qualified lawyer;
  • You are passionate about EU law and have thorough knowledge of the EU legislative process;
  • You have a proven strong interest in the EU policy and law-making process, including relevant experience in one of the EU institutions or in the EU public affairs industry;
  • You are a pro-active self-starter and a quick learner, motivated to take ownership of own responsibilities and to show initiative; you are able to work independently;
  • You like working and networking with people of different cultural backgrounds and at all levels of seniority internally and externally;
  • You are a highly effective communicator, articulate both orally and in writing;
  • You are fluent in more than one language, including English (French/Dutch/German/Spanish/Italian are an asset);
  • Experience in a technical sector, such as ICT, is an asset.
