Job framework and profile

Main duties:

Under the responsibility of the Head of the Department and respective Team Leader, the jobholder will contribute to the Investment Management team’s responsibilities, in particular:

  • contribute to ESMA’s work on developing the single rulebook by drafting technical advice and technical standards under the relevant legal framework in the area of investment management;
  • contribute to ESMA’s tasks in promoting supervisory convergence among national authorities in the area of investment management by e.g. drafting guidelines, opinions, Q&As, having discussions on supervisory cases or exchanging best pratices on supervision;
  • support the work of the relevant Standing Committee, Working Groups and Task Forces; and
  • contribute to the analysis of data for regulatory purposes.

Professional qualifications and other requirements

Eligibility criteria:

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all the eligibility criteria listed below, by the deadline for submitting applications:

  • have at least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of four years attested by a diploma, and after having obtained the diploma, six years of proven professional experience OR have at least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of three years attested by a diploma, and after obtained the diploma, seven years of proven professional experience;
  • be a national of a Member State of the European Union or the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland);
  • enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service;
  • have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union; and
  • be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post.

Essential requirements:

  • At least six years of experience (acquired after the required level of education, see part 3A) in financial services/markets, of which at least four years in the area of investment management;
  • Education and/or training in economics, finance, law or other relevant subject;
  • Excellent drafting skills in English.

Advantageous requirements:

  • Knowledge (proven by experience or training) of the trends and developments in the area of investment management;
  • Experience in drafting policy documents at the EU and/or national level;
  • Experience in coordinating committees, expert groups or projects;
  • Experience in processing/analysing financial data;
  • Experience in financial supervision;
  • Experience of EU financial markets regulatory framework within ESMA’s remit;
  • Work experience in a multicultural environment; and
  • Motivation for the advertised position.
