Description of position
The successful candidate will represent SPARK at EU institutions promoting our work and liaising with EU institutions, notably the EU commission, permanent representative missions to the EU, the European parliament as well as opinion leaders and think thanks. He/she will be responsible for identifying public funding streams (mainly European funding), and assist with writing and submitting proposals. The staff member will also be responsible for promoting the aims of our organisation and assist in the dissemination of lessons learned from SPARK programmes and ensuring policy implications of SPARK programming are discussed with the relevant Brussels based stakeholders. The above will lead to increasing SPARK visibility among development organisations in Brussels.
The staff member will work as part of the SPARK Design & Acquisition team and will report to the Head of Acquisition.
Main responsibilities
- Create, foster and maintain good relationships with partners and funding authorities in Brussels and feed policy processes from lessons learned within our programmes;
- Contribute to developing SPARK’s funding strategy and identifying new funding opportunities;
- Liaise with other SPARK colleagues to develop project ideas and proposals; coordinate researchers and partners contributions to projects; coordinate with SPARK’s Communication Team for the dissemination of project results (e.g. publications, events).
Requirements and skills
- Full understanding of, and ready to go personal existing network of EU institutions in Brussels;
- At least 4 years working at a senior level dealing with EU-institutions in Brussels;
- Knowledge of European funding programmes and tendering; sound knowledge of the European Programme Management;
- Track record in fundraising in the non-profit sector, in the Brussels environment is an asset;
- Excellent networking and information analysis skills;
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to work independently. The position requires results-oriented approach;
- Excellent drafting skills, including on economic subjects. Good knowledge of project development;
- Excellent communication skills in English: verbal and written; knowledge of other EU languages is an asset.
