Your role

  • Prepare the annual budgets for External Training & EMBL-EBI Training teams including event, office & salary budgets;
  • Monitor & control revenue and expenditure against budgets and update management and finance teams on any forecast over or under spend;
  • Develop budget models for training activities and input to the programming strategy based on the advanced forecasts generated;
  • Monitor the budget and expenditure of externally funded projects and ensure Project Managers are kept informed of each project's financial position;
  • Liaise with the grants and finance departments as needed to ensure that the budgeting and reporting of externally funded projects are accurate and complete;
  • Take responsibility (with the relevant budget holders) for ensuring good practice and compliance in the financial operations of the training teams with both EMBL internal policies and external requirements;
  • Prepare and submit the budgets required for EMBO applications;
  • Cost control and benchmarking to ensure both training teams both obtain and provide value for money in their operations;
  • Support events organisers across both sites with day to day financial queries;
  • Lead and support on ad-hoc projects as required.

You have

  • At least 3 years experience in project and financial controlling;
  • Sound knowledge of budgetary control;
  • Proven experience working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment;
  • The ability to work independently;
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Solid knowledge of the usual Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel;
  • Accountancy qualification or equivalent.

You might also have

  • Proficiency in accounting software (SAP is preferred);
  • Knowledge of event sponsorship acquisition;
  • Knowledge of event management;
  • Experience of working on the administration of academic research grants;
  • Experience working in an international organisation.
