The role

ICC is seeking a public policy specialist - ideally with proven experience on trade facilitation and customs issues - to lead its engagement on behalf of global business with key Brussels-based institutions.

The successful candidate will hold responsibility for deepening ICC’s institutional relationship with the World Customs Organization and the development of impactful policy positions and technical briefings to address customs frictions and bottlenecks - working with corporate experts in ICC’s Commission on Customs and Trade Facilitation.

The role will also take a leading role in raising ICC’s profile and influence with the EU institutions on European legislative initiatives of global significance to business.

Main responsibilities

Customs/Trade Facilitation (70%)

  • Manage the work of the ICC Commission on Customs and Trade Facilitation;
  • Identify emerging customs issues of concern to global business drawing on insights from ICC’s global network;
  • Manage the development of high-quality content to help shape policy discussions in the WCO and other relevant fora;
  • Manage ICC’s institutional relationship with the WCO - acting as the primary contact point for engagement.

EU affairs (30%)

  • Provide upstream intelligence on key legislative agendas (such as the EU Green Deal) to inform ICC’s global policy work and provide value add service to member companies;
  • Build ICC’s network of contacts in key EU institutions;
  • Identify opportunities for high impact engagement on issues of interest to global business;
  • Support the development of tailored content for EU policy makers.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • 5+ years proven experience working on public policy issues;
  • hands on experience working on trade policy and/or customs issues;
  • a proven track record in delivering effective advocacy programs with intergovernmental organizations;
  • strong networking and stakeholder management skills;
  • fluent written and spoken English, additional languages a plus.

Terms and conditions

Estimated starting date: as soon as possible

Department: Global Policy, the position will be based in Brussels.

Contract type and duration: Permanent contract
