In your role as EU Public Affairs advisor, your network and influence are both internal and external. You contribute to enhancing and growing Group’s reputation and image in Brussels towards the targeted stakeholders, and provide EU intelligence to the Group’s different entities. You report to the Head of the Group Representation EU office.
You will closely monitor the development of all EU policies and legislative issues relevant to the Group and proactively inform the Group entities on a regular basis; more specifically on policy areas covering corporate and industry policy related issues, transport and trade related questions.
By editing and distributing an internal EU newsletter, you establish an early warning system for business-critical legislation processes on EU level; in cooperation with the Head of office, you prepare briefing materials for Group senior management.
You enable and drive the Group’s influence and advocacy at European Union level, by identifying and mapping stakeholders, execute engagement plans together with relevant teams, in particular with Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs, and coordinate with Group experts on relevant EU priority issues; you provide political expertise when needed to support establishing positions on EU issues for advocacy purposes.
You identify business opportunities resulting from EU Commission initiatives and legislative processes and contribute to position the Group strategically, according to its vision and values. You enhance the Group’s visibility by attending external events like EU stakeholders’ meetings and conferences focusing on priority issues for the group. In order to profile the Group brands and its products you proactively identify and/or create speaking opportunities in Brussels. In addition, you contribute to local Group business activities by facilitating contacts towards Belgian authorities and local associations, as appropriate
For this role, you need to have a clear understanding of the decision-making process in the EU. You hold a Master’s degree in either Political Sciences, Law, or European studies. Ideally, you have completed an internship within one of the EU institutions and have minimum 10 years of experience in the Brussels’ EU affairs field. You are fluent in English, French and Dutch, any additional languages is definitely an asset; you have high standard of written and oral communication and have developed presentation skills. Most importantly you are an excellent networker, communicator and diplomat. You are at ease managing diverse subject matters and are service-minded. You can take initiative on your own but have a good team spirit. You have proven competence and experience in working with cross-corporate networks, enjoy working in an international environment, and are part of a small team working in a cross-functionally manner within a large Group.
You are hands-on, with conceptual skills and an ambition for innovation. High learning ability, eagerness to grow, long term vision and strategic thinking complete the desired profile of this important role.
