The EOSC Association was established in July 2020 as a not-for-profit international Association (AISBL) in Belgium. With already over 210 member and observer organisations from across Europe, the Association represents a single voice for the advocacy and representation for the broader EOSC Stakeholder community in Europe, promoting alignment of EU research policy and priorities. An essential role of the Association is to continuously develop the EOSC Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) which will influence future EOSC activities at institutional, national and EU level.

Just recently, EOSC has been granted special status as a co-programmed European Partnership. This new European Partnership status will fortify EOSC with European funding of almost €500 million and an in-kind contribution of the partners of also €500 million. The aim is to improve the accessing, sharing, and especially the combining and reusing of research data across borders and scientific disciplines. The EOSC Association AISBL is seeking to fill the position of a Communications Officer by 1st November 2021.

In this role you will be part of the Secretariat, which advises and supports the General Assembly and the Board and coordinates the implementation of their decisions. You will be reporting to the Secretary General.

Your responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing integrated communication strategies;
  • Researching, writing, and distributing content for websites, social media and news releases;
  • Maintaining and updating the organisation’s website and social media channels;
  • Communicating to members and observers via newsletter and intranet;
  • Fostering community relations, in particular with on-going and future EU-funded projects and supporting them in brand and communication-related issues;
  • Developing information material and overseeing production processes;
  • Writing policy papers, strategies, briefings, reports and other internal and external documents;
  • Liaising and answering enquiries from media, individuals, and other organisations;
  • Giving presentations and speaking at public events.

Your skills set and expertise:

  • Excellent communications skills and ability to adapt to different audiences;
  • Strong collaboration and networking skills;
  • Ability to be flexible and to function effectively under pressure;
  • Excellent experience working with computer software, internet, and digital media;
  • Experience in working in an international environment is essential;
  • Excellent oral and written command of English is a prerequisite.

To be successful and perform well in this position you are:

  • Self-motivated, objective driven with ability to work autonomously;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage overlapping and numerous projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Committed to meeting deadlines.

Mandatory requirements are:

  • Relevant work experience from a similar role;
  • A portfolio of published writing examples that demonstrate both an analytical approach and strong creativity;
  • Academic degree in a subject relevant to the portfolio of the tasks;
  • Capacity to learn and evolve with the job and the needs of the organisation;
  • Legal entitlement to work in Belgium.

Desired requirements are:

  • Experience from working in a communications agency;
  • Graphic design skills and good command of working with Adobe and InDesign;
  • Experience working in a multicultural, international context;
  • Deep knowledge of the EU institutions and the decision-making processes, as well as policy areas relevant to the topic such as Research and Innovation, Open Science, the Digital Single Market.
