EPEE (www.epeeglobal.org) is the Business Association representing the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump (RACHP) Industry in Europe. Founded in the year 2000 in Brussels as the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment, EPEE’s membership is composed of ca. 50 member companies as well as national and international associations, representing over 30 billion Euros annual turnover, over 200.000 direct jobs and millions of indirect jobs. EPEE member companies have manufacturing sites and research and development facilities across Europe, which innovate for the global market.

As an expert association, EPEE is supporting safe, environmentally and economically viable technologies with the objective of promoting a better understanding of the Heating & Cooling sector in the EU and globally and contributing to the development of effective EU policies for the European Green Deal.

Job Description

Do you want to work at the intersection of politics and industry on highly relevant climate and energy topics with long-term implications for the environment, energy, industry and society? Do you want to work in a team dedicated to making a real difference for the companies we represent?

EPEE is looking to recruit a full-time Policy Advisor, based in Brussels, to develop and manage EPEE‘s positions and advocacy on F-Gases. F-Gases are used as refrigerants in electrical refrigeration, heating and cooling applications, which in turn are key technologies to achieve 2050 climate neutrality. The use and emissions of F-gases are regulated at EU as well as international level.

The position is initially foreseen for two years. We offer a full-time Belgian work contract with benefits like meal vouchers etc.

As an important member of a young and passionate EPEE Team, you will be in charge of EU legislative files such as the EU F-Gas Regulation, acting as an interface between industry and politics, analyzing policy developments, reflecting them against industrial and technological realities, and producing arguments and messages relevant for the policy debates. The post will allow you to accumulate first-hand experience in managing EU legislative dossiers from A to Z as well as to acquire deep knowledge on the Heating & Cooling sector – a strongly growing sector and one of the most crucial sectors for the clean energy transition.

Tasks

  • To deliver policy analysis on EU political and legislative developments for the Heating & Cooling sector, especially around the use of refrigerants like F-Gases;
  • To extract and make use of modelling projections on refrigerant and energy use in the Heating & Cooling Sector, both from the Association’s inhouse modelling tools as well as from external tools and studies;
  • To draft and develop position papers and other content in close and constant interaction with EPEE members and the rest of the EPEE Secretariat;
  • To assist the Policy Director and Director General in outreach activities to EU Institutions;
  • To constantly develop expertise and contribute with thought leadership on current and future developments in the Heating & Cooling sector and the wider energy system.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate Degree: European, Business, Economics, Environmental Studies etc. A scientific background is welcome if combined with relevant Public Affairs experience;
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in EU Public Affairs (e.g. EU institutions, trade associations, consultancies, corporate public affairs). Previous experience with EU environmental and chemical policy is a strong asset;
  • Basic understanding of the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump value chain is an additional asset;
  • Solid knowledge of European policy making process and EU Institutions;
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Experience with economic and environmental modelling tools is an asset;
  • Excellent business writing skills. Ability to express complex issues in simple terms;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interact with stakeholders from various cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Strong motivation to acquire and develop expert knowledge and skills both on EU policy and on industrial and technological level;
  • Full professional fluency in English. Additional languages are a plus.
