BETTER FINANCE is looking for a full-time Junior Research and Policy Officer to join the team in Brussels. The successful candidate will specialise in the day-to-day management of policy and research projects covering Sustainable Finance in particular, but also areas such as Digital Finance, Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance. The successful candidate will be required to cooperate closely with the other members of the team and they may be requested to participate in other advocacy and research initiatives of BETTER FINANCE, depending on their interest and qualifications. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and run BETTER FINANCE policy and research projects related to EU financial policymaking, mainly in the area of Sustainable Finance, but also in areas such as Digital Finance, Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance;
  • Follow and engage in the evolution of the EU legislative procedures, EU consultations and other actions affecting financial services users’ interests in the research area of Sustainable Finance, but also in areas such as Digital Finance, Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance;
  • Follow the evolution of additional EU policy dossiers identified and agreed with the Executive Director;
  • Develop and contribute to presentations, draft research and position papers as well as responses to EU consultations on issues related to Sustainable Finance, Digital Finance, Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance (additional policy areas could be identified and agreed with the Executive Director);
  • Contribute to the management of the BETTER FINANCE Annual Work Programmes presented to the European Commission, in particular in the research and policy area;
  • Help manage the BETTER FINANCE working groups aimed at collecting the input and developing consensus between member organisations on EU shareholder and financial policy issues;
  • Develop contacts with the European institutions, research institutes, think-thanks, NGOs and universities, as well as other stakeholders active in the European research area as well as policymaking debate;
  • Participate in conferences, hearings, expert groups and other public events in relation with the research and policy objectives of the Federation, particularly with those organised by European institutions;
  • Second, if/when needed and specified, the Executive Director (ED) and/or the Managing Director (MD) in the preparation of official representations of the Federation (in meetings with European institutions and other stakeholders, and in EU financial advisory groups);
  • Cooperate with the ED and/or MD in their research-related work within Stakeholder Groups and other Expert Groups to the European institutions (European Commission, European Supervisory Agencies – EBA, ESMA, EIOPA – and others) and national regulators;
  • Manage the BETTER FINANCE’s Scientific Council by supporting the preparation and organisation of annual meetings.

The Junior Policy and Research Officer will report to the Executive Director.

PROFILE/MAIN QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking forward to welcoming an enthusiastic team player willing to take initiative within the portfolio of assigned tasks. The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in similar functions;
  • Minimum two years of experience in the area of Sustainable Finance (research and/or policy);
  • Experience in drafting publications and reports;
  • In-depth understanding of sustainable finance, as well as investors' & savers' rights issues and financial regulation more broadly;
  • Knowledge of at least the basics of investment and finance;
  • Knowledge of the general functioning of the EU institutions and their legislative process as well as experience of political advocacy;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (working language). Fluency in other European languages is considered an asset;
  • Good IT knowledge, particularly Excel and Word;
  • Team player and detail-oriented, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously;
