We are looking for a Legal professional to work closely with HERE’s Human Resource department and various business units on a broad spectrum of EMEA Employment Law issues. This position is based in Berlin, Germany and reports into the Global Legal Employment Law & Labor Relations Director. It offers a unique opportunity to work in an international environment with employment law topics covering the whole EMEA region.

In this role, you will be:

  • Providing timely guidance on matters such as: compliance with employment laws, employee recruiting, hiring and terminations (including RIFs), employment law issues arising from corporate acquisitions, works council and other collective labor law matters
  • Drafting and negotiating works council agreements and related topics
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating employment related agreements and agreements with HR vendors (together with the Legal Sourcing Team)
  • Reviewing (global and local) company policies for compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Informing HR colleagues of significant labor and employment decisions, legislation and regulatory rulings that may affect the Company’s business or policies in EMEA
  • Supporting, managing and conducting employment related litigation and arbitrations
  • Coordinating outside counsel involvement and help tracking outside counsel spend

Job Qualifications:

You are a hardworking, collaborative teammate, with at least 5 years of employment law experience in Germany and ideally in EMEA within a law firm or in-house environment. Communication is your forte - either verbal or written; sense of humour is also welcome.

You are qualified in the practice of law in either Germany, Netherlands, or France and experience with German Employment Law and works councils in Germany is mandatory. If you have an additional HR qualification or experience working within a HR environment this would be an asset.

Additionally we look for;

  • Experience working with employment laws in other EMEA region
  • Passionate about working on HR and employment legal issues arising in a variety of different countries within Europe, Middle East and Africa
  • High degree of creativity, must be able to identify risk mitigation options in a complex and highly competitive environment; must work standalone on less complex work, for highly complex deals with guidance by a more senior counsel
  • Highly flexible and versatile, must be able to provide support globally, in various jurisdictions, with a profound understanding of customer environment, local culture and business need
  • Fluency(spoken and written) in English and German language
