Energy Policy and Business Development Manager

Tesla

Brussels, Belgium

What to Expect

"Candidates located in Brussels, Amsterdam, or the UK will be considered."

Tesla is seeking an Energy Policy and Business Development Manager ideally based in Brussels, but we would also consider Amsterdam, or the UK. The Energy Policy Manager will be responsible for influencing rules and regulations to support the deployment and operation of Tesla’s battery storage products in Europe. While a core geographic focus area will be the UK, the Energy Policy Manager will support energy policy interventions at the EU, in EU member states, and potentially in other regions throughout Europe, Middle East, and Africa, as business priorities dictate. The Energy Policy Manager will be primarily focused on supporting Tesla’s utility-scale and residential battery storage products (Megapack and Powerwall), however, he/she will also support the company’s broader interests across its vehicles, charging, and other interests on occasion. We are seeking candidates with a passion for Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy and zero-emission transport.

What You’ll Do

  • Actively track and analyse relevant legislative and regulatory proposals that impact the deployment of battery storage for utility-scale, industrial, residential, and aggregated applications. Coordinate with regional and global Tesla teams, such as Policy, Engineering, Sales, and Legal, to develop Tesla’s position on various policy proposals;
  • Independently lead external outreach to influence policy and regulation. Proactively engage and educate key stakeholders across political institutions, governments, industry, academia and not-for-profit organisations;
  • Cultivate and retain a strong industry network to ensure that Tesla is called upon for consultation and comment to promote Tesla’s priorities. Build coalitions within the sustainable energy community;
  • Develop precise communication for both internal and external stakeholders. Write public-facing feedback for policymakers. Present at public-facing forums on behalf of Tesla;
  • Constantly reassess prioritization of policy interventions based on impact of policies on Tesla’s business as well as Tesla’s ability to influence policy outcomes.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven track record of working with policymakers to develop regulatory changes at EU or national level. In-depth knowledge of the policymaking process with national governments and/or electricity market operators;
  • In-depth understanding in the electricity industry: electricity regulation, policy, and market design in Europe or parts of Europe;
  • Technical understanding of electricity generation and/or electricity markets and trading;
  • Excellent communication skills with a professional level of English (both written and spoken);
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-faceted and fast-paced environment with diverse and global colleagues;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly;
  • Effective at working across parallel issues and teams, managing a wide portfolio;
  • Ability to define, strategize, communicate, and deliver against business objectives;
  • Comfort with situations where outcomes are vague or ambiguous;
  • Tenacious self-starter, with executive reporting skills;
  • Ideally based in Amsterdam, but Brussels or the UK also considered;
  • Travel required, up to 25% of time.
