The European Network Against Racism (ENAR aisbl) is the only pan-European anti-racism network that combines advocacy for racial equality and facilitating cooperation among civil society anti-racism actors in Europe. Our mission is to achieve full equality, solidarity and well-being for all in Europe. We want to allow all members of society, whatever their skin colour, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, disability, age or sexual orientation, to participate and be included in society. We specifically work to combat racism and discrimination based on colour, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, religion, culture, language or legal status. Our staff is based in our Secretariat in Brussels and our member organisations are based all over Europe.

To support our work to achieve positive systemic change to build an inclusive Europe, we are looking to recruit a passionate and talented Equal@Work Advisor (Employment, Diversity & Inclusion) to serve as a strategic policy expert and trainer in the field of anti-racism and non-discrimination and in particular on DEI at the workplace. The Advisor works with private and public employers, civil society on non-discrimination and inclusion policies, demonstrated advocacy and training experience and commitment to race equality.

Base Salary: € 3094 gross per month
Reports to: Senior Network Development Officer
Working hours: Full time
Contract: 1 year with possibility of renewal following evaluation
Start of contract: ASAP

The primary responsibilities of the Equal@Work Advisor are:

  • Coordinating and developing of ENAR’s Equal@Work strategy (https://www.enar-eu.org/ENAR-s-Equal-work-Platform), its seminars, reports, publications and coordinating support to stakeholders, including private companies;
  • Preparation and facilitation of ENAR’s Equal@Work internal working group;
  • Coordinating of the work of consultants hired to support specific trainings and research;
  • Monitoring of related policy developments at EU and national level and identifies issues of concern for the Equal@Work platform and its network;
  • Supporting the Equal@Work platform members and liaises with relevant counterparts, when and where required;
  • Identification and assessment of new advocacy opportunities at EU or national level, in collaboration with colleagues and ENAR members;
  • Drafting preliminary policy positions, and advocacy supporting documents;
  • Involvement in the preparation of content for conferences, publications and other ENAR initiatives;
  • Drafting and implementing specific projects and takes part in grant applications and final reporting;
  • Supporting the Director and working closely with colleagues working on advocacy, communication, research and networking to ensure consistency in overall strategies.

General responsibilities

  1. Work flexibly as a member of the team and the organisation and undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities at the request of the Senior Network Development Officer, Co-Directors and other colleagues;
  2. In close collaboration with the Co-Directors, liaise with policy makers and politicians as well as any other relevant counterparts, when and where required;
  3. Attend and contribute to the preparation of ENAR conferences and publications and other ENAR initiatives;
  4. Proactively share relevant information and expertise within the organisation;
  5. Contribute to the smooth running of the organisation, working with other ENAR staff to meet the organisation’s overall objectives, including strategic and operational planning, participation in periodic performance and training reviews, and contribute to organisational development where relevant; and
  6. Contribute to draft grant applications and final reporting.

Education and knowledge

  • Proven track record with experience or equivalent education;
  • Proven experience in working in close partnership with private and public employers;
  • Proven experience in diversity and inclusion, policy analysis and/or advocacy in related fields and at least 2 years work experience in working closely with racialised groups;
  • Good knowledge of anti-racism, intersectionality, migration, human rights, discrimination and/or related issues.

Ability and skills

  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills;
  • Outstanding negotiation, communication and presentation skills (ability to address a wide range of audiences);
  • Good project management skill;
  • Good training skills;
  • Knowledge of human rights, equality and non-discrimination and related issues;
  • Good understanding of the intersectionality framework;
  • Experience of working in a multicultural team;
  • Fluency in English (speaking and writing), other languages valued;
  • Sound organisational skills, ability to prioritise work and to meet deadlines;
  • Good team player, sound judgment and maturity;
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.

Reporting duties:

  • The Equal@Work Advisor reports to the Senior Network Development Officer.

Line management:

  • No line-management duties beyond guiding their own Intern, if applicable.
