Objective of the traineeship

The Africa-Public Sector team is responsible for investment projects in the public sector in Sub-Saharan Africa. The work environment is dynamic and diverse in terms of activities, ongoing operations and the stakeholders involved (internal and external). The objective of the traineeship is to provide support to the team in the research for prospective projects, database updates, the execution of the contracts already signed and preparation of briefings, notes, presentations as well as thematic events/workshops with a regional focus.

Ultimately, you will gain a good understanding of the Bank's role in the region, modus operandi and the impact of EIB in sub-Saharan Africa. You will also have a better understanding of the EIB's interactions with other key stakeholders and partners including the European Commission and other international financial institutions such as for example the World Bank, the African Development Bank.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Heads of Units and senior colleagues, you will actively participate in the Division’s core activities.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Carry out research, update databases and contributing to drafting reports, country overviews, project documents and when required internal notes for the Bank's management;
  • Prepare briefings, presentations and communication materials for different audiences, depending on the business needs to showcase the Bank's activities in the Region;
  • Coordinate and follow-up internally with the Bank's services and with clients on various operational, legal and technical matters, under the lead of the Loan Officer(s);
  • Assist in the disbursement process, by ensuring that the conditions precedents of relevant Finance Contracts are followed-up and met on time;
  • Help out the operational staff in the preparation of thematic events and workshops;
  • Help with the dissemination of internal information or new processes and with their implementation;
  • Most importantly, we want you to remain open to contribute with ideas, enthusiasm and expertise to the tasks of the team.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree of a MENA/ACP partner country or equivalent in Economics, Law, International co-operation or related studies;
  • A first experience in a national or international organization will be considered as an advantage;
  • Good to advanced knowledge of MS Office software, in particular Word and Power Point;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English or French with a good command of the other. Knowledge of Portuguese language will be an asset.
