Work Context

The European Gravitational Observatory is a French-Italian consortium founded by INFN and CNRS to foster European collaboration in gravitational wave research and it hosts and operates the Gravitational-Wave detector Virgo (http://www.virgo-gw.eu/), a 3km-long laser interferometer (ITF). Virgo and the two LIGO ITFs in the US are the largest and most sensitive gravitational-wave detecting instruments in the world. The Virgo experiment involves the collaboration of around 850 members, representing 42 institutions in 16 different countries. The Administration has two different Departments, Area 1 and 2. Area 1 contains and coordinates the following offices: Human Resources, Finance and EU Accountability, Outreach&Communication and User Office. Area 2 contains and coordinates the following offices: Tenders and Procurement, General and legal Affairs, EU projects and External Relations. The Head of Area 1 has also the role of “responsabile della prevenzione della corruzione e della trasparenza (RPCT)”. The position is opened for the Head of Department AD1. The successful candidate can also take the responsibilities of Head of the Departments AD2 ad interim. According to the EGO statute the Director can appoint an EGO Administrative Deputy Director.

Mission

The EGO Consortium, in presence of specific functional needs, can hire personnel at a level and salary range higher than entry level, up to 10% of current EGO employees.

The EGO Consortium is opening a position for the search for a candidate who will work as The Head of Department AD1 (see Work Context for the definition of AD1). The successful candidate can also take the responsibilities of Head of the Departments AD2 ad interim. According to the EGO statute the Director can appoint an EGO Administrative Depuy Director. As a member of the EGO Directorate, she/he contributes to the development of the overall policy and strategic planning. She/He will be responsible for the fields of financial planning and accounting, treasury, human resources.

Activities

The candidate will be responsible:

• for the administrative, operational and financial support of the organization;
• for all aspects of the operations in the Directorate to ensure efficiency and performance in accordance with regulations, policies, objectives, strategy and business plans;
• of the overall financial strategy at EGO and enable EGO Council to understand financial consequences of developments and decisions;
• for establishing and maintaining relationships with funding institutions, external auditors board, and other external institutions.

Essential Skills

• Master’s degree in Economic and Business or Law;
• At least 12 years of specific professional experience related to the announcement;
• Knowledge of Italian language;
• Knowledge of English language;
• Knowledge of Public Administration Management;
• No criminal conviction.

Other Skills

One or more of the following will be an asset:

• Knowledge of French language;
• Phd in fields related to the opened position;
• Master in fields related to the position opened;
• Knowledge of laws of public administration;
• Knowledge of public contracting and public procurement procedures;
• Previous experience in the public administration;
• Previous experience of public contracting and public procurement procedures;
• Previous experience in Research or Academic institutions;
• Being a dynamic, precise, resourceful person with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, who can work in a team with optimal problem-solving skills and strong results orientation;
• Good knowledge of software for the management of administration and budget.

Selection procedure

Only candidates who meet the above essential required qualifications and experience are admitted to the selection procedure. The evaluation of the candidates admitted to the procedure is assigned to a Selection Board appointed by the Director of EGO. The Selection Board will determine the evaluation criteria in the first meeting. The first phase of the selection will be based on a review of the Application Forms and other documents received in line with the above-mentioned essential and desired requirements. Only candidates who have obtained the minimum score established by the Selection Board in the first meeting will be able to access to the second phase of the selection, which will consist of an interview. During the interview the Selection Board will verify the knowledge of English and Italian languages and the knowledge of software for the management of administration and budget

Contract Period: 12 months, with the perspective of a permanent contract
Remuneration: 91.191,10 annual gross (Lev I, Fascia 4 CCL EGO 2023-2025)
Desired level of education: Master’s Degree in Economic and Business or Law
