We are recruiting for a key position within our secretariat's communications team: Senior Media Manager. In this role, you will oversee the development and execution of our media strategy across digital, print and broadcast platforms. You will work closely with the Communications Director, co-managing a team of communications and digital professionals. You will also collaborate with our campaign team and BFF members to build our coalition brand voice and drive engagement around the energy transition in the power sector.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop the Beyond Fossil Fuels’ secretariat media strategy, aligned with the campaign goals;
  • Contribute to the overarching BFF coalition communication strategy;
  • Ensure that the media strategy is integrated with our brand identity, social media and digital communications activities;
  • Oversee all media relations work: media lists, outreach, monitoring and coverage analysis;
  • Manage and nurture relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers, and content partners;
  • Act as a spokesperson and media representative for the organisation;
  • Write press releases, media briefings, advisories, op-eds, comms kits for our coalition members, and edit reports;
  • Oversee daily media screening and monitor relevant energy, climate and political trends in the media;
  • Conduct a thorough audit of our current media outreach;
  • Monitor and evaluate BFF’s media outreach, including press release distribution, engagement with journalists, analysis and follow-up protocols, to identify and implement improvements;
  • Lead communications on BFF campaign wins, losses and other developments;
  • Manage media crisis communications and reputation management issues proactively and reactively;
  • Be the main communications team contact point and lead for the BFF work areas on PMR (Plants, mines and regions) and EMG (Electricity markets and grids);
  • Maintain the BFF secretariat’s and coalition’s comms calendar;
  • Line manage three members of our communications team, including task and performance management. Participate in hiring processes if relevant.

Required skills & experience

  • 7+ years of professional experience in media relations, journalism, PR, or strategic communications working for or with energy, climate or environment civil society organisations;
  • 4+ years of line-management experience;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the energy transition, including its political and economic context in Europe;
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and copywriting skills in English, with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and style;
  • Understanding of the climate and energy non profit sector and NGO coalition work;
  • Proven track record of successfully managing media campaigns from planning to execution;
  • Expertise in identifying and capitalising on media trends and news and anticipating media opportunities;
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively on content ideation and execution;
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and respond to real-time news and issues;
  • Familiarity with social listening, media analytics, and KPIs for media performance;
  • Highly organised and capable of balancing multiple priorities;
  • Strong leadership and team management experience;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Confident working remotely with a broad range of people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds;
  • Passionate about promoting a healthy, environmentally friendly, and fair society.

Desirable skills & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field;
  • Strong network of media contacts (national and/or European);
  • Experience in producing or pitching podcast content;
  • Experience working in international or multicultural environments;
  • Fluency of other European languages.
