The adviser will be part of the department in charge of the EACB’s activities in the area of Retail Banking, Payments, Digitalisation and Financial Markets. This department looks at legislative, supervisory, and other European initiatives impacting the product development of cooperative banks and the relationship with their clients. Topics typically addressed revolve around account opening and customer due diligence, payments, lending and borrowing, investment services, consumer and investor protection and the use of technology to support these activities. The adviser will report to the Head of the Department. Their portfolio will comprise the following tasks:
- Monitoring of legislative (Commission), supervisory (ECB, European Securities Market Authority) and self-regulatory (standardisation in financial markets) developments and initiatives affecting the retail investment and financial markets business of EACB members;
- Building and maintaining a network of relevant contacts in: (1) EU institutions, agencies and other bodies; and (2) relevant stakeholder organisations and other trade associations;
- Building and maintaining close relations with relevant staff members and experts in EACB member organisations;
- Providing regular updates to member organisations about policy debates and (self-regulatory) initiatives or other interesting developments;
- The organisation and animation of meetings with EACB members to discuss the (self) regulatory and supervisory activities which affect the retail investment and financial markets business;
- Drafting of papers, letters and speeches expressing the view of the EACB membership on aforementioned initiatives for internal and external use and/or distribution;
- Designing advocacy and campaign strategies based on clear and identifiable actions in liaison with the Communications team;
- Advocate the views of EACB member organisations in meetings with representatives of the EU institutions and other stakeholders.
PROFILE
- University degree (preferably Master's level) in economics, banking, finance, business administration, political science or law;
- Distinct interest in financial markets, the impact of regulatory developments (e.g. sustainable finance, investor protection), the process of interest representation and ability to work on sometimes technical matters;
- A first work experience in the area of EU affairs allowing easy analysis of legislative, supervisory or self regulatory proposals;
- Knowledge of EU law, EU institutions and their functioning;
- For working purposes an excellent knowledge of the English language (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of other official languages of the European Union is also appreciated;
- Good communication and time management skills, excellent drafting and analytical skills;
- Flexible, pro-active, structured and independent work attitude, team spirit and discretion.
