About the Swiss Finance Council

The Swiss Finance Council (SFC) promotes dialogue on financial policy and regulatory developments at European and international level. It represents the interests of internationally active Swiss banks and asset managers and provides a platform for sharing expertise, experience, and knowledge with policymakers, including EU institutions through its permanent representative office in Brussels. The SFC articulates and advocates the common interests of its members, develops joint positions, and serves as a trusted source of expertise for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the wider financial community.

The Role

The Policy Advisor plays a central role in shaping and delivering the SFC’s policy and advocacy activities. Based in the SFC’s Brussels office and reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will lead key thematic working groups, contribute to the development of the SFC’s advocacy priorities, and represent the interests of members in discussions with European policymakers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes the following responsibilities across the areas of banking and prudential, digital finance, and tax regulation:

• Lead and coordinate SFC working groups;
• Build and maintain strong relationships with SFC members. Travel to Switzerland for in-person meetings, workshops, conferences, and other relevant events may occasionally be required;
• Monitor European political, policy, and regulatory developments, affecting SFC members and provide timely analysis, strategic advice, and updates on key developments;
• Develop and implement advocacy strategies in support of SFC policy priorities;
• Draft, coordinate, and contribute to position papers, consultation responses, policy briefings, and other advocacy materials;
• Support the coordination of an informal network of third-country financial institutions and associations, facilitating dialogue on financial services policy developments and cooperation on joint positions;
• Develop and maintain a strong network of stakeholders, including industry associations and policymakers, to gather intelligence, exchange views, and align advocacy approaches;
• Represent the SFC in meetings with policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders, and other external partners;
• Attend and represent the SFC at public hearings, conferences, and events, providing members with relevant insights and analysis;
• Contribute to the organisation and development of SFC events and activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 3 years of professional experience in EU-level public policy, regulatory affairs, or governmental affairs within the financial services sector;
• Demonstrated experience in regulatory analysis, positioning, and advocacy;
• Strong understanding of European institutions, EU decision-making processes, and legislative procedures;
• Experience and knowledge of banking and prudential regulation, digital finance, and/or tax policy is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly understand and assess complex regulatory and policy issues;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while working independently and taking ownership of deliverables;
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills;
• A proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to work effectively in a small, multicultural membership organisation;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in another EU language is an asset.
