The Bureau of International Recycling, the global federation of recycling industries, is searching for an experienced multilingual PR/Communications Officer to join its communications department. In this role, you will play a key part in amplifying our voice and promoting the critical role of recycling in a circular economy.

BIR counts over 1100 corporate members and national associations in 73 countries. Together, these members form the largest international recycling federation. The organisation covers eight material streams – iron/steel, non-ferrous metals, paper, textiles, stainless steel/special alloys, plastics, tyres/rubber and electrics/electronics/EV batteries. BIR is a non-profit organisation under Belgian law (AISBL), with its registered office headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. The BIR Secretariat is composed of a small but efficient team of 13 professionals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

Responsibilities of the position:

  • Contribute to the development and production of BIR publications, including magazines, reports and newsletters;
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop engaging web content and communication tools;
  • Enhance BIR's visual identity through the creation of compelling graphics and presentations;
  • Support with media relations and outreach activities to raise awareness of BIR and its initiatives;
  • Assist the social media manager with campaigns and online presence optimization;
  • Attend BIR’s twice-yearly recycling conventions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field;
  • Previous experience in a PR/communications role (minimum 2-3 years) a must;
  • Solid experience with digital communication platforms (content creation, photo editing, digital marketing, website management);
  • Track record in managing publications and other communication materials;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English (C1);
  • Proficiency in French is a significant advantage, and fluency in additional European languages is a plus.
