The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) is a growing nonprofit that accelerates environmental and social sustainability in the pet industry through education, tools, project support, and collaboration. PSC works closely with pet company members, including brands, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers, to identify strategic sustainable impact opportunities that drive increased profitability and benefit our planet. PSC’s awards and programs are highly rated across the industry, and they include sustainable packaging, sustainable proteins, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PSC seeks an impact-driven, solutions-focused EU Member Representative to further our industry-leading European efforts. This is a full-time/contract position based in Europe, reporting to PSC’s Director of Member Services. This individual will work in a fast-paced start-up environment where they will be integral in leading PSC’s strategy development in Europe, including prospective member development and managing existing member benefit utilization while providing superior customer service.

The ideal candidate will have previously been in ESG roles and experience engaging with industry stakeholders to advance sustainability objectives. The candidate will have established networks in sustainable business communities and a strong understanding of sustainable businesses, NGOs, nonprofits, and collaborative organizations in Europe. The ideal candidate is a confident public speaker, a team player who excels at managing partnerships, and a self-starter who can work independently.

This position requires excellent organizational skills, gifted relationship management and communication abilities, and a willingness to adapt quickly to change. The candidate must be a team player who can work with others to ensure collaboration between member services and other departments overseas. The person should be able to develop and build strong relationships with members while promoting a wide range of sustainable business services to help our members.

Additionally, this position requires recommendations on enhancing strategy to expand and accelerate PSC’s work in Europe. This will include helping to shape the structure and future of our work in Europe, responding to the unique needs of European members, and identifying and cultivating working partnerships with organizations that can help deliver project support to our members.

General Member Support and Engagement - 75%

  • Serve as relationship manager for European PSC members;
  • Provide excellent customer experience and build strong relationships with members to increase customer loyalty and retain members;
  • Continuously update member profiles to be reflective of current account activities, goals, challenges, and potential areas of interest/support;
  • Evaluate member profiles to understand and recommend new programs and services to increase revenue and upgrade membership;
  • Answer a wide variety of member questions and concerns regarding PSC programs, tools and resources, services, and events promptly and professionally;
  • Manage & track delivery of all assigned member benefits, projects, and programs;
  • Support the delivery of member projects, including quality, accuracy, timeline, and adherence to scope;
  • Provide regular updates to European members on the utilization of their benefits and opportunities for how they could best leverage their annual benefits;
  • Facilitate professional, engaging, and informational presentations and meetings for all assigned members;
  • In-depth understanding of all key PSC Initiatives, Programs, and Project opportunities.Share recommendations and feedback on all key PSC initiatives, programs, projects, and events.Providing excellent support to existing members in order to retain and upgrade memberships.

European Strategy Development- Initially 25-50%, eventually steady-state of 10%

  • Advise European program vision and strategy development;
  • Identify a portfolio of ESG consulting firms who can serve as project partners, delivering implementation to advance ESG practices of our European members;
  • Create and adhere to a budget for EU work that is based on European member-driven revenue;
  • Represent PSC in EU-based industry collaborative groups;
  • Identify and support the facilitation of key partnerships with European organizations, project partners, and associations;
  • Support EU member cohort by creating meeting agendas, leading cohort meetings, and support the cohort lead with member chats and notetaking;
  • Propose creative solutions to improve our membership benefits and offerings in Europe.

Member Sales, Recruitment, and Sponsorship - 10%

  • Maintain a pipeline of active potential European membership prospects;
  • Meet with potential members to share benefits of membership and solidify membership;
  • Support PSC revenue-generating programs such as Accreditation, Packaging Pledge and Sponsorship among European members;
  • Support marketing by identifying members who have interest/may have interest in key sponsorship opportunities;
  • Staff key European trade shows and industry-specific events.

  • 2+ years of corporate sustainability experience;
  • Strong network in EU;
  • Public speaking experience: Charismatic, public speaking and sales abilities - ability to tell the story and motivate people;
  • Experience leading in at least one of the following areas is highly preferred: sustainable packaging, sustainable ingredients, corporate responsibility, or climate action;
  • Experience with primary reporting frameworks (GRI, SBTI, SASBI, CDP) and EU regulatory requirements (ESRS, CSRD, etc.);
  • English fluency at a business level (written and verbal) required. German, Dutch, French or Spanish fluency is advantageous;
  • Experience in a client-facing consulting role with C-suite and senior business professionals;
  • Advantageous but not required:
    • Experience in the pet industry;
    • Master’s degree in environmental sciences or equivalent;
    • Experience building coalitions across sectors, industries, and sizes of organizations, educational institutions and NGO;
    • 2+ Years in sustainable program development and management.
