Job Description

The EU Manager External Affairs works in cooperation with the EU Director External Affairs in developing advocacy strategies for Albemarle in the region. He/she will work in the areas of critical raw materials (lithium), trade, sustainability, due diligence, e-mobility, chemicals & products management legislation and policy. He/she identifies opportunities for engagement with representatives of the institutions and bodies of the European Union and its Member States and represents Albemarle with EU stakeholders including trade associations, NGOs and OEMs.

Tasks

  • Cooperate with the EU Director External Affairs in developing advocacy strategies for Albemarle in the region;
  • Policy and regulatory monitoring and external outreach;
  • Lead on specific policy files, including regulatory assessment, development and implementation of advocacy strategies and external representation;
  • Understanding current regulatory and policy trends and translating the impact to the business priorities and opportunities;
  • Defining implications of regulatory and policy trends on the product portfolio;
  • Development of Government Affairs and Advocacy strategies that support the GBU's short and long-term objectives;
  • Promotion and defense of Albemarle's products in the EU & at national level;
  • Development of appropriate internal & external communication & advocacy tools on EU policy and regulatory matters;
  • Represent Albemarle with EU and national stakeholders including relevant directorates in the European Commission, members of the European Parliament, Member States' competent authorities, industry associations;
  • Develop an active network with his/her counterparts at customers, downstream users and OEMs.

Required Skills And Experience

  • An academic Master degree in European politics, international relations, law or communication;
  • 5 years working experience in a relevant field (environment, sustainability, transport, chemicals, raw materials);
  • Previous working experience in European Institutions (especially European Parliament) highly desirable;
  • Good knowledge of EU energy, transport, environment and/or trade policy and legislation (for example, CO2 emissions, ETS/CBAM, Due diligence legislation, Raw materials strategy);
  • Possess good contacts with legislators and regulators at the EU level;
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, and an ability to convert to sound implementation plans;
  • Excellent networker and communicator with good presentation and reporting skills and an ability to influence;
  • Native speaker or fluent (written and verbal) in English and German;
  • Able to work in a multicultural and international environment.
