The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is a grant-giving organisation based in Brussels. EED’s goal is to provide flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other EU and member state democracy support programmes. EED provides context-based, demand driven support based on a principle of fostering democracy and facilitating initiatives of local actors. EED believes in taking an unconventional approach to supporting democracy through investing in transformational ideas and the people behind them. Its geographic mandate covers the European neighbourhood and beyond.
EED seeks trainee for a 12-month traineeship (starting September 2023).
Finance, Operations, Audit Preparation and Administrative Support – Administrative assistance is required to support the finance team of the EED Secretariat, including preparation of timesheets, processing of invoices, records management, supporting the preparation for a series of expenditure verification and systems audits required by EED donors.
We seek candidates who have a background or experience with finance and administrative processes. Previous audit experience or knowledge of basic accounting an advantage. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required. Candidates must be organised and have an eye for detail.
Citizenship of an EU Member State, or permanent residency in the European Union is preferred.
EED’s working language is English (fluency required); accounting and administrative language is French (knowledge an advantage). Knowledge of other languages of the countries of EED operations would be an asset.

Preferred contractual relations with the trainees is a Convention d'immersion professionnelle (a professional immersion agreement under Belgian Law). The expected level of monthly remuneration is around €1,400 net per month.
