Position summary

The Executive Director is the visionary face of the MiN, guiding and entrenching the Network’s role as a multi-stakeholder platform and thought leader in inclusive insurance by increasing its reach and relevance, and driving strategies to ensure its financial sustainability. Complementing these outward-facing responsibilities, the Executive Director actively manages the team, oversees finance and accounting, and takes responsibility for specific programmes. The Executive Director acts as the organisation’s legal representative and must be based in Luxembourg.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Strategic leadership:

  • Execute five-year strategic plans and annual work plans with pre-defined KPIs aligned with the strategic objectives;
  • Serve as the main spokesperson and advocate for the Microinsurance Network, representing the organisation in external events, conferences, and relevant industry forums to raise awareness, promote the inclusive insurance sector, and drive policy dialogue.

Build the Microinsurance Network brand:

  • Increase the MiN’s visibility and credibility within the inclusive insurance industry through events, tools, initiatives and publications;
  • Maintain and expand the MiN’s position through relationships with members, donors, academics and other industry players;
  • Ensure and lead the yearly publication of the Landscape of Microinsurance study;
  • Deepen the relationship with the Luxembourg inclusive finance ecosystem, including with the main donors (Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs and the Ministry of Finance).

Member recruitment and retention:

  • Expand the existing global strategy to attract new members;
  • Build on the current value proposition for current members to ensure retention.

Institutional sustainability and fundraising:

  • Develop and implement strategies that ensure continued financial stability;
  • Actively and consistently seek and secure funding opportunities, cultivate donor relationships, and diversify the organisation's funding base.

Operations and team management:

  • Coordinate and supervise daily operations (including managing financials and budgets) and manage staff (fulltime staff and consultants);
  • Prepare and moderate Board meetings, General Assembly and other important meetings.

Profile

Education, experience and skills:

  • Degree in either economics, business administration or law with a component of financial inclusion and/or international development;
  • Knowledge of the inclusive insurance sector and existing relationships with key stakeholders, in particular donors in the development finance space;
  • Familiarity with Luxembourg’s sustainable and inclusive finance ecosystem;
  • Financial management knowledge, including familiarity with non-profit financial management and reporting practices, comfort and ability with developing and navigating budgets;
  • Experience and success with fundraising and/or donors;
  • Strong experience in managing and leading staff members;
  • Experience in small organisations and start-ups is advantageous.

  • Evidence of strategic thinking;
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills;
  • Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and financial analysis;
  • Excellent communicator both orally and written;
  • Proficient in English and French. Knowledge of Luxembourgish/German/Spanish would be an asset;
  • Confident and eager to engage with members, speakers, funders, and all stakeholders;
  • Competencies in business development, including identifying new funding opportunities, cultivating partnerships, promoting organisational growth and reporting;
  • Creative, flexible, and detail-oriented, with the ability to foresee and solve problems;
  • Ability and willingness to travel several times a year (International conferences and events).
