Your role

As an Accounting and Financial Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • entering accounting transactions and executing queries in the Organisation’s financial information system;
  • reconciling the accounts in the trial balance;
  • performing bank reconciliations and other cash management tasks;
  • recording and paying supplier invoices;
  • accounting for and reimbursing the travel expenses of staff and other persons travelling at the expense of Council of Europe budgets;
  • preparing VAT reimbursement requests;
  • assisting other services by providing accounting and/or financial information;
  • contributing to the preparation of financial statements, budgetary and other reports;
  • contributing to controlling the compliance of accounting and financial operations with the Financial Regulations and other relevant rules;
  • collecting and preparing supporting documents for internal and external auditors and for the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators.

What we are looking for

You must have:

Academic background and professional experience and expertise:

  • post-secondary diploma corresponding to a minimum of two years studies in accountancy, finance or related field;
  • at least 2 years of relevant professional experience relating to accountancy, finance, audit or equivalent;
  • sound computer skills of standard tools in office applications (word processing, Excel spreadsheet, database software, accounting software).

Languages:

  • very good knowledge of one of the Council of Europe’s official languages (preferably English) and good knowledge of the other language;
  • English and French are the two official languages of the Council of Europe.

Other competencies that would be an asset:

  • Professional and technical expertise:
    • experience of using accounts payables or receivable module in an accounting system or ERP.

Nationality:

  • Citizenship of one of the member states of the Council of Europe.

What we offer

In Strasbourg, you will receive a basic monthly gross salary of €3 139 (grade B1) or €3 576 (grade B2) which is exempt from national income tax.
