The purpose of your role will be to support the practices in Belgium with specific strategic projects and incremental “continuous improvement” work to ensure that the firm continues to optimise levels of efficiency in the way we deliver legal work for clients by:

  • Identifying areas for increased client delivery efficiency together with the client and partners/lawyers;
  • Providing project management services/expertise as a member of the matter delivery team in support of the matter manager/client. This part of the role is chargeable;
  • Co-ordinating/supporting the delivery of legal tech, AI solutions on matters.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own and drive the portfolio of Business Improvement within Brussels including legal process improvement and legal tech working jointly with the Business Improvement MA and the COO in Belgium to deliver high quality client work as efficient as possible;
  • Develop and implement a successful legal process improvement and legal tech solutions offering for clients based on (1) current and future client needs identified in collaboration with the 8 practices and (2) the legal tech/AI products and support available through the teams in London/Frankfurt;
  • Support the delivery of matters as a Legal project manager incorporating key project management tasks such as: initial planning and pricing, monitoring and tracking delivery, financial and budget management and client liaison;
  • Work with the Belgium practice (and where appropriate with other European offices in our network) to support business development activity through the attendance at client pitch meetings/client demonstrations around efficiency, legal tech and other business improvement offerings. This may also involve speaking with the press about client matter efficiency work;
  • Attend internal and external training and conferences as required to maintain a comprehensive understanding of how continuous improvement concepts, legal tech tools and project management techniques are being used within and outside the legal industry. Help to ensure that Linklaters remains at the cutting edge of these developments;
  • Share good practices internally and mentor partners/lawyers on the solutions offering. Nurture a culture of continuous improvement across the office together with a guiding coalition of partners/lawyers;
  • Develop and implement a methodology for identifying opportunities at clients/matter teams, for managing change and for measuring/reporting on the successful implementation;
  • Is a senior role with opportunities to build a team;
  • Attend regular Business improvement service line/management calls as well as attend BI related events;
  • Work with the global Business Improvement service line leads to deliver in accordance with targets/standard ways of working.

Skills and experience:

  • You have previous experience in successfully developing and implementing business improvement initiatives supported by processes and systems, and in complex change management projects. You also have experience in the professional services industry;
  • You have work experience of 6-10 years;
  • You are commercially aware and understand how businesses work. You are able to influence;
  • You are a quick learner and self-starter with high quality standards and an affinity for (legal)tech;
  • You demonstrate strong commitment to maintaining high levels of client service;
  • You have a consultative, engaging work style and strong facilitation;
  • You have the ability to earn respect of a wide range of stakeholders;
  • You are confident as a presenter, trainer and mentor;
  • Your performs well under pressure. You are assertive when necessary and are able to prioritise quickly;
  • You are approachable and willing to learn new skills and to take on responsibility;
  • You have outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • You must possess a willingness to travel - London based induction (est. 3 months) and to support the potential matter delivery/sales development in other offices;
  • You are fluent in English. French/Dutch are desirable;
  • Desirable: APMP certification or some other form of professional project management certification.
