Job Description/Capsule

This role will support the development and implementation of an integrated Europe and Canada (EUCAN) Region Government Affairs and Policy strategy and engagement plan to position AZ as Government partner of choice, ensure patient access to new medicines, uptake of existing medicines, and raise the profile of AZ priorities and brands as well as proactively position AZ as a innovation leader in the Europe and Canada region.

This person will monitor the EUCAN political environment and will provide advice on its impact and opportunities for AZ business and support the development and co-ordination of multi-faceted advocacy/influencing strategies to promote, support, and/or defend primary business goals and policy objectives. In addition, this person will also be accountable for the strategic planning and coordination of Government Affairs and Policy activities across the EUCAN region.

This role requires strong collaboration, alignment and networking skills and an ability to navigate effectively within our organisation S/he will report directly to the Director of EUCAN Government Affairs, work closely with the Director of the Brussels offic, global, regional and market-based teams covering Commercial, Medical Affairs, Payer and Corporate Affairs Functions to develop strategic government engagement platforms and partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of an integrated high-level engagement plan that will help to raise the profile of AZ priorities and brands as well as proactively position AZ as a leader in healthcare system solutions in Europe and International regions;
  • Support overall strategy development for EUCAN GA and Policy including coordination and alignment of respective GA and Policy scorecards and its delivery;
  • Responsible for overall EUCAN GA and Policy budget monitoring and allocation;
  • Assist in engagement and communication with Regional GA and Policy networks (including driving agenda and participation for EUCAN GA and Policy monthly calls, face to face meetings, delivery of GA and Policy workshops);
  • Responsible for identifying and delivering high-level engagement/speaking opportunities (e.g. Gastein) for AZ business leaders and driving accompanying strategy to drive business need/opportunity;
  • Assist in analysing, developing and delivering recommendations, messaging and positioning on key policies and issues impacting AZ’s portfolio and business. Build positive support for AZ policies and positioning;
  • Support harmonisation and development of tools for building GA and Policy capability across the region;
  • Support internal and external communication (including digital channels), in partnership with Global Internal and External Communications, around EUCAN GA and Policy good practices as well as other relevant initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ability to lead internally and externally within, and into, large complex, culturally-diverse, matrixed organizations in the absence of direct reporting relationships;
  • Track record of shaping major complex and complicated policy matters at senior levels of government on issues involving many, varied and powerful stakeholders;
  • Proven experience in government affairs/relations, patient advocacy group and NGO relations;
  • Ability to understand and influence issues and decision-makers in complicated and complex situations and creating shared agendas;
  • Biopharmaceutical industry and/or healthcare industry experience required. Strong business acumen;
  • Strong project management, budgeting and planning skills;
  • Significant understanding and appreciation of political environment, policy issues and governments in Europe;
  • Direct experience in running global/regional programmes;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication,ability to work collaboratively within a diverse and geographically dispersed team and effectively work across functions;
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including enhanced presentation and influencing skills;
  • Problem solving – ability to resolve conflict and deal with a wide range of complex problems independently;
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation in strategy and execution, finding the right balance in working strategically and operationally, ability to work well under pressure and enjoys a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment.
