  • Short-term temporary contract, parental coverage, January – December 2022. The applicant must be available to commence as soon as possible, at the latest from 1 January 2022.


  • Based at the EIT Food Headquarters in Leuven, Belgium (virtual working as required during the COVID-19 pandemic, though candidates will be required to be based in Belgium).


In this role you will be responsible for managing the administration and monitoring of EIT Food’s public engagement projects which are executed by EIT Food partners and EIT Food, on a pan-European level. As member of the Public Engagement team, you will also contribute to the administrative tasks related to other team activities (e.g. management of contracts and payments).

As a programme manager you will:

  • monitor the execution and performance of the continuation projects and Proof of Concept projects as outlined in the annual Business Plan;
  • manage the full cycle of the projects, including the (amendment) business plan, end of year reporting tasks;
  • support the team during the evaluation of applications for running requests for contributors and in the setting up of new calls and requests towards partner participation;
  • contribute, under the Leadership of the Head of Public Engagement, to the evaluation of projects and thereby to the development of a strong multi-year public engagement portfolio;
  • answer partner questions and communicate with partners to process changes to a.o. projects, budgets, Key Performance Indicators and work plans. Raise red flags and propose solutions to manage risks. Liaise with EIT Food operations counterpart(s) where needed;
  • support the compliance of EIT Food Public Engagement projects with Horizon Europe eligibility rules;
  • safeguard that all project materials for dissemination and communication follow the EIT Food brand guidelines;
  • manage the administrative tasks such as contracts, filing, procurement, CRM and other administrative tasks related to the Public Engagement team;
  • collaborate closely with the Head of Public Engagement in managing the Public Engagement portfolio and the FooUnfolded® Editorial Manager in managing the administration for FoodUnfolded®. Liaise with EIT Food colleagues across the organisation, where needed;
  • co-operate with the other members of the communication team. Support on ad hoc basis in other areas of communication when required.

Ideally, the candidate has:

  • Bachelors or Master degree in social sciences, business management, European studies or equivalent domain;
  • 5 years of relevant working experience;
  • Fluent in English and ideally one other EU language;
  • Basic knowledge of the legal and financial framework of the EU’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation;
  • A proven track record of successful managing and implementing projects at EU level;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, including strong public presentation and writing skills;
  • Experience with programme/project management methodologies. Ability to carry out research, analyse, interpret and communicate information;
  • Process-orientation with attention to detail and respect for timelines and deadlines, delivering results;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, flexible to work in small (multi-national) teams/matrix organisation, in a fast- paced changing multicultural environment;
  • Sociable, service oriented, creative mindset;
  • A passion for food, innovation and sustainability;
  • Previous working experience in and knowledge of EU Institutions and UN SDGs is an asset.
