Dow has an opportunity for a Government Affairs Policy/Issues Manager located in Brussels and focusing especially, but not necessarily exclusively, on EU chemicals regulation. This position exists to support the development, and coordinate the implementation of, the EU advocacy strategy on the EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability while brokering relationships for a variety of Dow stakeholders that can be leveraged to advance Dow's enterprise.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the Dow Brussels office and internal stakeholders have the active and passive external relationships in place to inform EU policy
  • Coordinates timely development of Dow positions, working with internal and external stakeholders throughout the advocacy process, including Dow subject matter experts in Operations Regulatory and Product Safety
  • Shapes and coordinates issue- and/or substance-specific advocacy strategies, ensuring timeliness and effectiveness and utilizing resources from across the Dow organization as appropriate
  • Proactively drives Dow's defined interests by helping shape the policy agenda in public and private meetings and events
  • Directly engages with EU policy makers on legislation and regulation of business interest to Dow and ensures timely Dow contributions into the policy development process
  • Works with trade associations on advocacy issues, coordinating with internal Dow stakeholders as appropriate
  • Owns an ongoing stakeholder mapping process

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, ideally in a corporate government affairs function, trade association or other NGO
  • Detailed familiarity with the existing REACH, CLP and broader chemicals regulation framework is essential; familiarity with the EU’s Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability is an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and prioritize workload effectively
  • Perfect command of English; other EU languages are a benefit

Education:

  • Postgraduate degree in a field linked to EU studies and/or chemistry
