Tesla is also a leading actor in the development of automated and eventually driverless vehicles. Tesla’s aim is to deploy these technologies in a harmonized and widespread manner to its different markets, ensuring our customers have access to the safest vehicles on the market – which will continue to become safer as the car becomes more autonomous. The fast-growing EU team is adding a role to support our activities related to vehicle safety and automation policies on the member state and European level.

The role:

This role will focus on the rapidly developing policy and regulatory frameworks regarding autonomous and connected vehicles in Europe, at national, EU and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) level, ensuring that these frameworks continue to facilitate and support Tesla’s autonomous and connected vehicle solutions across Europe.

Reporting to the Global Vehicle Automation Lead, you will work closely with the EMEA public policy and business development team to interact with European and national stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Map relevant regulatory and standard developments in Europe at the regional and national level;
  • Define political strategy in coordination with the Global AV Lead and European public policy and business development team;
  • Participate & influence rulemaking and law drafting processes;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with public, technical and safety authorities;
  • Help out with regulatory enquiries into Tesla’s driver assistance and automation systems;
  • Ensure Global AV Lead and engineering team understanding of regulatory requirements, opportunities and challenges;
  • Support engineering teams to enable developmental, QA and testing activities in European countries.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant public policy activity;
  • Experience working with public, technical and safety authorities;
  • Solid technical understanding of vehicle automation basics;
  • Solid understanding of the European type-approval framework and related processes;
  • General understanding of European safety, data and AI developments;
  • Ability to understand and translate impact of vehicle assistance and automation functional, validation and assessment requirements;
  • Deep understanding of European competitive state of play is a plus;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities and demands, and in-between time zones;
  • Excellent communication skills, professional fluency in English written and verbal is required. Additional languages, especially German and French, are a plus;
  • Preferably based in Brussels.
