Natural Mineral Waters Europe is currently looking for a highly motivated and service-oriented Sustainability Manager to join its small and dynamic team in Brussels.

The successful candidate will advise NMWE on its contribution to EU environment and sustainability policy developments and will develop and manage projects (including EU projects) on packaging circularity, carbon neutrality, water use ratio and enhanced bio-diversity protection. He/she will also work closely with industry experts, value chain partners and environmental NGO.

He/she will report to the Secretary General.

About NMWE

Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE) is the voice of European natural mineral and spring water producers. Through its membership base of twenty-six national associations and individual bottling companies, NMWE represents over 550 producers waters across Europe.

European natural mineral waters are a flagship for European high-quality produce, providing consumers with healthy and natural hydration. The sector has a long standing commitment towards source and environment protection with measurable impact on biodiversity. NMWE members are determined to deliver full circularity for all their packaging, both glass and PET.

NMWE’s office is based in Brussels and consists of a team of four (not counting the advertised position).

Areas of responsibilities

  • Monitor the development of EU policy and legislation in the sustainability and environmental fields, with a special focus on Circular Economy, biodiversity and green claims;
  • Develop industry positions on environmental and sustainability issues affecting the industry, taking into account the diversity of the membership;
  • Provide insight and regular information to the membership on developments of interest via dedicated messaging, newsletters, etc.;
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in the environmental and sustainability fields, including the European Commission services and relevant NGO’s;
  • Act as staff liaison to the Chairpersons of NMWE’s Environment and Sustainability Committee and coordinate the meetings of the Committee (agenda, material, minutes);
  • Collect and disseminate best practices developed by national trade associations and company members in the field of environmental stewardship in collaboration with NMWE’s Senior Communications Manager;
  • Lead and manage NMWE’s projects in the field of Environment and Sustainability, as agreed by the Board (water use ratio, life cycle analysis, decarbonisation, biodiversity measurement, etc.);
  • Share information on ESC actions and policy developments with colleagues and Committee Chairpersons from other Committees as needed to enable timely communication and advocacy.


  • Master’s degree in science (e.g. environmental science, bio-engineering, food technology, or other related scientific degree).


  • Minimum five years’ work experience in the field of scientific, regulatory and/or environmental affairs;
  • Solid knowledge of EU structure and decision making (ideally acquired in the course of an internship or a previous position with an EU institution).


  • Proactive and capable of exercising leadership;
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills;
  • Ability to draft analytical reports and policy papers;
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and present complex issues in a clear and concise manner;
  • Self-starter and independent;
  • Service-oriented;
  • Team player and flexible person.


  • English: native speaker or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of French and/or other EU languages would be an important asset.
