MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Economics intern Transport & Competition will be positioned in the CER Economics and Legal units. Intern’s main responsibility will be literature and case research, data gathering and data analysis in the field of transport economics as well as competition economics in transport sector, with the aim to contribute to CER’s policy activities:

  • Review and assess the decision-making practice and emerging developments in competition policy, regulation and transport economics and their potential impact on the railway businesses;
  • Undertake evidence-based analysis (literature and case reviews, surveys, interviews) to support ongoing and future CER policy activities;
  • Act as CER’s data scientist by delivering facts, figures and analytical insights;
  • Draft supporting papers, briefings, essays and other materials on transport economics, as well as competition policy and regulation in the transport sector, to support CER’s policy work;
  • Contribute to ad-hoc studies and reports;
  • Support CER Economics and Legal Working Groups with regular updates regarding economic and competition developments;
  • Work on relevant policy topics with respect to (inter-modal) competition and State aid;
  • Provide content to CER publications, in particular the weekly Monitor and the quarterly Economic Briefing.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS:

What kind of person are we looking for?

  • You have a strong interest in EU transport, climate and energy policies;
  • Some experience in applied economic research would be a plus;
  • You are able to work independently and as a part of a multinational team.

  • Excellent analytical skills and a good understanding of economic research methods;
  • Detailed oriented approach combined with keeping to tight deadlines;
  • Critical-thinking skills;
  • Full professional proficiency in English with excellent writing skills;

  • Good interpersonal skills.

Background

  • The applicant should have an post graduate degree in economics;
  • Specific focus on Competition topics is desirable;
  • The applicant must be available to work for a period of 6 months.
