PPTA, a global biopharmaceutical trade association, seeks an Executive Director to manage and execute European health policy relation issues at the European Commission and national levels, including programs and activities in support of the goals and objectives of the Association. The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective management of staff, knowledge of the EU landscape and familiarity with the plasma protein therapies sector.

The Executive Director reports to the President & CEO of PPTA and serves as a key member of the Association leadership team. The Executive Director is responsible to the Europe Board of Directors.

The Executive Director also serves as operational director for the Brussels office, responsible for the overall effective and successful operation and conduct of the affairs of the Association’s Europe division in coordination and collaboration with peers in the Association’s headquarters based in Annapolis, Maryland USA. The Executive Director must demonstrate effective people management and strategic leadership skills.

The programs of the Association are accomplished through the efforts of volunteer members with the professional support provided by staff in the Brussels and Annapolis offices through a matrix-structured approach. The Executive Director must work harmoniously with volunteer members and Association staff in order to ensure successful agreement and execution of all programs and activities within the goals identified by the Europe Board of Directors or projects assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Degree, preferably in biology or other life science;
  • Advanced degrees or equivalent work experience resulting in a familiarity with plasma protein therapies desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years experience in mid to senior level management role, including supervisory experience;
  • Experience with health policy issues and advocacy at the EU and national levels;
  • Familiarity with European public health, regulatory and pharmaceutical reimbursement practices;
  • Work experience within the plasma protein therapeutic sector is a plus;
  • Experience in association management or multi-national corporations, preferred.

  • Willingness to travel – Up to 40%.
