RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Research support on a number of recently acquired European Commission projects (i.e. maritime economy, maritime spatial planning, ocean governance), mainly for the related DGs;
  2. Contributing to proposal writing and general business development in one or several of the above areas.

ECORYS Brussels is looking for a Maritime Affairs Consultant for the Policy and Research Team. The position includes:

  • Strengthening Ecorys leading position as service provider for the European Commission, in particular for DG MARE, DG ENV, DG RTD in areas including the maritime economy, maritime spatial planning, ocean governance, etc.;
  • Working with colleagues from the Ecorys Group and with relevant partner organisations in pursuing new business opportunities;
  • Play an enabling and supporting role in delivering new and existing projects in the marine and maritime policy areas.

PROFILE

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree in a relevant field i.e. economics, law, political science, etc.;
  • Post graduate or professional qualification and experience in a relevant field i.e. maritime economics, environmental economics, maritime law and management, marine and maritime policy, etc.;
  • At least 2 years professional experience in working with European institutions, EU clients, partners and organisations;
  • Knowledge of EU maritime policy-related topics and initiatives i.e. Integrated Maritime Policy, Blue Growth, competitiveness and innovation of EU blue economy sectors, ocean governance, Maritime Spatial Planning, etc.;
  • Excellent writing skills, in particular experience of writing sections of proposals or similar documents;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • An ability to work flexibly and organise and prioritise parallel tasks;
  • A good understanding of the functioning of EU institutions;
  • A curious mind.

DESIRABLE

  • Good organisational and project management skills;
  • Efficient, solution-oriented and pro-active;
  • IT literacy in MS Office environment;
  • Confidence and expertise with qualitative and quantitative research;
  • Experience in supporting business development activities, writing of successful bids, reports and concept notes.

CONDITIONS

  • Start date: mid-May onwards;
  • Salary dependent on experience and expertise;
  • The post holder will be entitled to 27 days of paid annual leave in addition to 10 days of bank holiday;
  • This is a full time post under Belgian law and based in our Brussels office.
