2. Position Description

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is looking for an advisor (m/f/x) to strengthen its European Liaison Office (ELO) team. You advise and guide VUB researchers in submitting and conducting fundamental research in the context of the European Research Council (ERC) and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) calls of the Horizon Europe programme, in particular in the context of the EUTOPIA University alliance. In this way you contribute on the one hand to the realization of the strategic objectives of the R&D department, and on the other to the development of the research arm of EUTOPIA, with a focus on strengthening our position in the European framework program Horizon Europe, pillar “excellent science”.

More concretely, in the context of the EUTOPIA alliance, your work package contains:

Provide information to potential candidates and supervisors about ERC/MSCA calls;
Advise and guide researchers in the submission of ERC/MSCA project proposals, the preparation of grants, the start-up, implementation and reporting of projects;
Proactively identify and approach 'high potential researchers';
Provide administrative support to grantees of awarded ERC/MSCA projects;
Organize information sessions and meetings with VUB researchers and with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. faculties, financial service, human resources department, European institutions and agencies;
Contribute to the communication campaigns around ERC and MSCA projects;
Collect, analyse and provide information and recommendations on relevant policy developments;
Contribute to financing strategies for internal and external networks;
Making proposals to guarantee the quality of our services and to facilitate internal processes.

You are part of the “European Liaison Office” team within the R&D department of the VUB. For this position you will be employed at the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus in Ixelles. You follow an on-boarding process and work closely with the 3 other ELO members and the ELO coordinator. You work together with the various partners of the EUTOPIA network of which VUB is a member.

3. Profile

What do we expect from you?

You have at least a Master's degree or equivalent through experience;
You have a thorough knowledge of research financing processes, preferably within a European framework;
You have (academic) experience and affinity with research projects;
You are customer-oriented, fascinated by the delivery of high-quality tailor-made solutions, willing to go "the extra mile" on your own initiative;
You speak fluent English and have a good knowledge of Dutch;
You have a good knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
You like to work autonomously and take initiative;
You cooperate effortlessly in a team;
You are stress resistant and you dare to deal with many files (+ deadlines) at the same time.
