The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world aimed to explore the secrets of life. EMBL integrates 27 members states and currently employs approx. 1 800 people across its six sites in Heidelberg, Barcelona, Grenoble, Hamburg, Hinxton, and Rome. EMBL Heidelberg is the headquarters site located in Heidelberg, Germany, integrating both research groups and core facilities.
The EMBL International Centre for Advanced Training (EICAT) coordinates and organises all aspects of internal and external training at EMBL. EICAT External Training is responsible for the EMBL Course and Conference Programme and the Scientific Visitor Programme, as well as for all further aspects related to the training of external scientists and the broader scientific community.
The EICAT Scientific Visitor Programme and Training Lead will lead the development and implementation of EICAT's scientific strategy for hosting, supporting and integrating visiting scientists at EMBL, as well as support and reinforce the EMBL programme for international conferences and courses.
In this role, you will actively coordinate and organise contacts and opportunities for scientific visitors coming to EMBL for short- to mid-term research projects, as well as support deploying opportunities for novel and innovative scientific conferences and courses at the forefront of scientific and technological development. The position reports to the EICAT Head of External Scientific Training.
As our ideal candidate, you have have a PhD degree in the life-sciences with at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. A broad interdisciplinary scientific interest and research background in molecular biology is required.
The candidate should have demonstrated effective organisational skills and the ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner across a broad range of functions. Effective multi-tasking and the ability to work with tight deadlines are also required.
Excellent presentation skills are essential.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, as well as creativity and collaborative team spirit are required. The ability to anticipate needs and maintain excellent working relationship with people, also from the corporate environment is essential.
An excellent command of written and spoken English is required.
A high level of computer literacy is required for this position. Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft or Open Office software, as well as the Adobe Software Suite are expected.
