‘Business as usual’ is destroying our planet. But it is possible to live well without harming nature. From renewable energy to ecological farming, change is a foot – governments are just too slow to embrace real solutions. We are looking for an experienced, creative and motivated political campaigner to help challenge the EU to forge a sustainable path, preserving the environment for future generations by working on regulating new GMs and ending use of glyphosate.

Place of employment: Preferably based either in Brussels or Paris, but could also be based somewhere with reasonable train access to Brussels (if located outside Brussels, it requires frequent trips to Brussels).
Duration of contract: 1 year with possibility of extension.
Reports to: deputy director of Greenpeace’s European Unit.

Your main responsibilities will be to

  • Develop science-based political demands regarding GM techniques and glyphosate;
  • Develop and implement political advocacy strategies on EU policies regarding GM techniques and glyphosate;
  • Provide Greenpeace campaigners across Europe with coordination, strategic advice and policy expertise related to GM techniques and glyphosate;
  • Monitor and analyse relevant EU & global legislative and political developments;
  • Maintain active relations with European decision-makers in close collaboration with Greenpeace European Unit colleagues;
  • Partner with NGOs and other allies to develop common or complementary advocacy strategies;
  • Draft briefings, letters, blogs, commission and/or contribute to reports and scientific research;
  • Give our communications team potential stories and ideas for impactful communications;
  • Act as a spokesperson as required.

About you

  • A strong desire to contribute to the protection of the environment and to political change;
  • A good listener, happy networker with an ability to inspire action in people of different political persuasions;
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience, in particular in the areas of GM and/or pesticides;
  • Proven technical knowledge about GM and/or pesticides;
  • Excellent policy analysis and strategic planning;
  • Experience in making change happen through public campaigns, and the ability to view environmental policy in terms of campaign opportunities;
  • Good knowledge of the decision-making processes of the EU institutions;
  • Self-motivation, stress-resilience and ability to work as part of a team;
  • Very good spoken and written English, and fluency in at least one other EU language;
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and to establish supportive work environments.
