EuroCommerce is a leading European business federation and the principal voice for retail and wholesale in Brussels (www.eurocommerce.eu). We are a team of 20 policy and advocacy professionals working on a fascinating and diverse set of issues and projects for retailers and wholesalers. In order to strengthen our team, we are currently looking for an Adviser, Payments.

Working with members and the staff team, the Adviser for Payments will coordinate and drive EuroCommerce’s actions towards the EU institutions, the ECB, relevant agencies, and other stakeholders on creating a competitive and innovative payments environment which benefits consumers and merchants.

Your responsibilities

  • Monitoring policy & legislative developments in payments policy and technology;
  • Ensuring that EuroCommerce members are properly informed on new developments and initiatives in payments;
  • Work with EuroCommerce members, key stakeholders, and EU institutions to ensure that the interests of retail and wholesale are understood and reflected in policy decisions;
  • Managing the EuroCommerce Payments Committee, and supporting the chair of the committee;
  • Building consensus among members and formulating positions with members on priority issues and designing strategic action to take forward retailer and wholesaler interests in payments policy;
  • Together with the EuroCommerce Advocacy team, developing advocacy plans and lead advocacy activities on the basis of agreed positions;
  • External representation, alone or in partnership with multi-stakeholder alliances, and members, participation in EU consultative bodies, such as ERPB, ECSG;
  • Internal and external communications, working with the Advocacy and Comms team, designing and organising events; ensuring EuroCommerce representation in external events.

Your profile

This is a senior position requiring strategic vision and the ability both to work autonomously and work closely with members and the EuroCommerce team to further the interests of the sector in the important area of payments.

  • 10 years’ professional experience in payments, preferably with direct interface with payment service providers/acquirers;
  • Relevant university degree and an interest in EU policy, with experience of dealing with EU institutions and agencies responsible for payments;
  • Strong writing, presentation and analytical skills;
  • High energy and ability to deliver results in a demanding environment with tight deadlines;
  • Proactive and able to work autonomously;
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relations with EuroCommerce members and other outside stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English; good knowledge of other European languages an asset.
