EMEA Industry Affairs Lead

For our EMEA Crop Science Public Affairs, Science and Sustainability team, consisting of 10 passionate public affairs professionals in Brussels and the EMEA area, we are looking for a EMEA Industry Affairs Lead, based in Brussels, Belgium.

The focus of this position is to broaden and deepen Bayer’s relationship with key actors in the EU agri-chain associations and collaboratively drive advocacy and engagement for material policy priorities of joint interest.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong trusting relationships and an effective network with agri-chain associations relevant to our business and active in agricultural and sustainability policy in EU;
  • Bring ‘outside in’ perspective from stakeholder groups under his/her responsibility into internal advocacy strategy development and into critical long-term R&D and business decision making processed (5+ year outlook) in EMEA;
  • Lead stakeholder analysis and outreach for Crop Science topics at EU and regional level;
  • Lead strategy and implementation plan that drive positive policy outcomes, including strategies for achieving sustainable food systems goals in collaboration with Public Affairs Managers at EMEA and country level;
  • Coordinate Industry Affairs activities across countries at EMEA level;
  • Liaise with global, internal industry and stakeholder affairs teams to ensure consistent and coherent engagement with ag-chain actors and networks globally;
  • Manage and conduct meetings and events with key influencers and stakeholders on issues and policy developments relevant to the crop science business;
  • You will act as an ambassador for Bayer Crop Science in the EMEA agricultural, sustainability and food systems policy arena.

Who you are

  • University degree and minimum 10 years of professional experience in governmental, stakeholder and/or, industry affairs with proven record in leadership roles (incl. cross-functional team leadership);
  • Solid network within EU agricultural and food value chain;
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Crop Science business/environment and proven record in advancing initiatives through strategic communication to senior decision makers and influencers;
  • Strong strategic mindset and ability to manage ambiguity;
  • Experience and strength in political communication, lobbying, networking and representation, including ability to interact with critical stakeholders and influence leveraging relationships and networks;
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and known to be proactive; able to develop collaborative relationships based on trust and accountability with various stakeholders both internal and external to achieve objectives;
  • Fluent in English and at least one other European language.
